Canoeing on the Upper Salaca
Salaca is one of the most scenic rivers in Latvia, and particularly beautiful is the section that runs through Skaņākalns Nature Park, where during paddling it’s possible to see sandstone cliff outcrops, forested banks and pristine river scenery. Upper Salaca routes usually start in Vecate, at the Salaca outflow from Lake Burtnieks or in Mazsalaca and continue to Staicele, offering peaceful and pleasant paddling for one or several days.
LĪČU SKOLA is located right in the middle between Mazsalaca and Staicele, making it a convenient accommodation and rest stop for multi-day canoeing trips. Here you can easily get out of the river, rest and continue your journey the next day!
